File under hopes and dreams: E-sports athletes, I wanna be one!

So lately, In the time that I haven't been playing Star Wars: the Old Republic, I have been playing League of Legends again as I have had enough time away from the game to recover from the losing streak that drove me from it in the first place.

I have been studying and passing at my diploma in IT Networking, but not enjoying it very much, and have subsequently lost interest. Obviously I will continue to attend and will complete the course, but it has gotten me thinking: Just how awesome would it be to be a professional gamer, and why not me?

You know how when you're little your parents give you that "you can be anything you want to be" speech? As I was skimming through the channels on the TV (I am on the Easter holidays from TAFE) and I saw an interview with Jay-Z, where he was saying that he hopes to leave the planet with a memorable legacy. He wants to encourage people to go and achieve what they want and to never believe that anything is out of reach, no matter where they have come from or where they have been.

Now, I will say that that is about as mushy as this is going to get, but that resonated with me a little. It got me to thinking; If I have spent my life in the shit for my poor choices and my inability to stick with something that doesn't interest me, and spend every second that I am not doing something that I have to do, doing that which I love doing, playing video games, then why not try to make something of it?

Now, I know that this is every single kids dream, and sooooo many people snuff this as a stupid idea, or a waste of time, I disagree. I see E-sports becoming MASSIVE in the very near future. Imagine: "Coming up next, the Intel Extreme Masters New York, brought to you live on ESPN." I am going to go on record to say that it WILL happen. I don't know when and I'm not sure what the catalyst will be, but I can feel it, and with the current generation being the "internet generation" and the skill level of players getting better and better while the age is getting lower and lower, I'm excited for the future of competitive gaming and frankly, you should be too.

With the advent of cross-platform games (counter-strike: Global Offensive) bringing all the different gaming cliques together, lucrative sponsorship deals allowing athletes to take on their sport full time, team hiring coaches for physical and digital training regimes, world-wide trips and multiple events, all funded by the teams sponsorship deals and winnings, I see nowhere for the industry to go but up. Not to mention the sheer volume of money involved in the computer/internet business and the death-grip that they hold on our current, technology driven world, I am stoked to say the least.

To coincide with my long overdue blog post, I give you all of that to have your brain worms chew on and bid you:

Peace out Internetz!

YAY! I'm learning stuff and things.

Hey guys. So I thought it was worth celebrating that I have started my diploma in IT and have successfully taken home my work and DONE IT! TToday I spend like 3 hours going through the first workbook, and have done everything that I could do from home.

Tomorrow I will be going in to the campus and finishing the book (with a little help from the lecturers) and then that will be week one DONE!

I have been turning down the amount of LoL that I have been playing over the last couple of days, not for any reason, it has just happened that way but I am super duper stoked about my life and getting fit and really keen to get to a competitive level of LoL, or at least get into the scene enough to start recording my games, watching the competitive circuit a bit and still (love it or leave it) trying to make a name for myself.

Also I have been learning how to touch type. MAN THAT IS HARD!

Anyways, just a small update today internetz! Peace.

Imma FIRIN' MAH LAYZOOOOORRRR!

So the last few weeks/months (my concept of time is almost non-existant) I have been exclusively playing lol and have been enjoying it a fair bit. Which is a stark contrast to my last post, in which I believe I was bitching about how much I had been losing and how it had been getting me down.

I am still working on animating projects, but as of today I have commenced a Diploma in Information technology: Networking, and will be commiting as much time as my sanity will permit to that endeavour.

In the mean time, I'm working on a new and improved "Part of the problem" and have been recording my lol matches, so you can maybe expect to see some footage from my matches with all my mates, and at some point, some extended, hopefully better animated version of "part of the problem" as well.

Stay tuned internetz and I'll try to be more frequent with my updates.

Peace.

P.S. the title of this post relates to a video of a lucky double kill I got with Lux that you can find on the videos page of this blog or on my youtube channel, baggymeerkat.

Practice makes....... something.

Hey guys.

So there are some things in the pipeline, I have been making display pics like mad for my friends with Flash. I have also been getting more illustration programs (adobe photoshop, Gimp and Corel painter) to practice my abilities and try to broaden my my skill set to include some styles that interest me but that I am currently incapable of doing very well. I also should mention here that my v ersion of flash has stopped working so until I fix it, I wont be able to make any more profile pics for anyone. At least not to the same style and ability that I was before.

I got a graphics tablet as well, (Wacom bamboo pen) and a new monitor because mine died a few weeks ago and I am really enjoying both of them. Playing LoL on a 32 inch TV was destroying my nervous system.

Anyways, I have been raging at LoL lately so I have been giving it a rest. I just lose every time I play and it has become a depressing angering morbid chore to play it.

WoW has also gone on hiatus..... almost indefinitely. I have no motivation to play as there is never anything new in the game and internet people and their relentless abuse and trolling makes me rage, not to mention that I can't progress cos I can't find a guild and I can't find a guild cos I can't progress, then there's the fail loot systems in the Looking for Raid raid to make me rage..... Just a rage-fest left right and centre really.

So at the moment, just madly practising art in every medium I can get my nerdy little hands on and trying to give enough thanks for all the support ALL of my friends have shown for my abilities as an artist and my recent attempt at internet mediocrity.

So I would just like to say: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! It really is the words of my friends and role models that drive what I do (most of the time to my detriment) but this time the support has been overwhelming and I love you all for it!

In the mean time, keep an eye out for whatever I might be working on next,

Peace out internetz!
